Bitcoin price crash - don't sell - buy more.

In the last few hours bitcoins took quite a hit. I have seen many unhappy people on twitter who are aghast that the price is actually dropping and are panic selling.

Firstly bitcoins are an inherently risky investment - if you can't keep your cool or can't afford to lose your money. You probably shouldn't be involved in bitcoins.

Secondly, this is a perfect opportunity to acquire some more. If you invest regularly in smaller amounts of bitcoins - you can smooth out these wild market fluctuations using a simple principle called - pound cost averaging.

The way I see it is that when it comes to bitcoins - they either will become huge or they will go the way of all previous e-currencies -For example I never did manage to spend my Beenz.

Bitcoin just has a better chance than any that came before as it is decentralized and appears for the moment to be secure.

So if like me you are in this for the long haul. Hold tight and maybe increase your holding.

If you are attempting to make a quick buck - or play the markets day trading. Good luck - but I think you are likely to give yourself a coronary.

If you would like to know more about bitcoins - and maybe even get some free ones. Check out this site where you can find out more.

NSA to shame and discredit people by revealling their porn habits.

According to this article by the BBC the NSA actively monitors your web usage and will in the event you cross them attempt to discredit and shame you by revealing your online porn habits.

To avoid this happening to me I am happy to reveal that I like porn with big boobed lesbians. But am open to suggestions.

Should you wish to avoid this kind of monitoring you may think that you could use an anonymity service such as the TOR browser. But wait a minute - wasn't that software made by them too? Basically, we're all f*cked.

I think that if you want to watch porn anonymously it might be best to get down your local smut shop and buy it off the shelf- possibly whilst wearing some form of disguise.

Also make sure you don't pay with your credit card for it - as they monitor all that too. Use cold hard cash - or bitcoins.

CoinbyCall website down

Last week I thought I had found a great website that turns your unwanted mobile phone minutes into bitcoins. I immediately set about getting myself some extra coins.

coinbycall.com

As I have 5000 inclusive landline minutes per month and only use around 800 I decided to start leaving my phone on all night calling their landline number and earning the equivalent of around £0.20 an hour. Not a lot but it doesn't cost me anything to leave my mobile phone on throughout the night.

The premise of the website is that they pay you to listen to radio over landline telephone and pass on a proportion of the advertising revenue.

However, as of yesterday the site has gone down and I have bitcoins valued at around £5 on there.

They are not responding to twitter and I cannot obtain their email address as the site is down.

I hope that all turns out OK but cannot help but think they have disappeared with my £10.

Another valuable lesson learned in the world of bitcoin.

Meh.....

Other ways of getting bitcoins can be found at http://www.freebitcoingiveaway.co.uk

UPDATE: The site appears to be up and running again now. The times of my last calls don't seem to match - but this may be down to the server being in a different time zone to me. I will check and let you know.

Butterfly Labs Bitcoin Mining Scam.

Many people are upset with the delays they are having in receiving their ASIC hardware to mine bitcoins from Butterfly Labs,  many of these people have paid with bitcoins. Others with paypal, others with bank transfers - they do not accept credit cards from what I can gather.

Why would you not accept credit cards if you are a legitimate company? Because refunds can be charged back over very long periods of time - Paypal allows only 60 days - Butterfly Labs lead time is 88 days. That's 28 days later than the cut off. Bitcoins are simply not reversible.

Call me sceptical but this appears to me to be a way to scam people into giving them money - and they have no need to ship products to make a profit.

There is a no refund policy unless they fail to ship - If they fail to ship their product (which I suspect they will)  and you paid by Paypal - you have no recourse if they decide not to refund - this is also true for bank transfers.

If you pay by bitcoin - you have to trust them.

Lets assume they do refund you and do not ship the item. If you paid in bitcoins - and the price of bitcoins goes up - then they will refund you in dollars - if the price goes down - they can refund you in bitcoins - they are essentially using your money to play the market - if it goes up they make a mint - if it goes down - they incur no risk.

I would be happy to hear from people who have received their units the world over and know what the time scales between order and delivery were and if the units themselves live up the hype.  Did you pay by bitcoin, bank transfer or Paypal?

What are your opinions?
